There’s something about lighthouses that always makes me stop.

They can feel so small against the sea and sky, but somehow they still hold your attention.

In this painting, I wanted the lighthouse to feel still while everything around it kept changing — the water, the clouds, the light, the colour of the land.

The painting itself changed along the way too. Some parts began much colder, almost winter-like, but the more I worked on it, the more I wanted warmth in the landscape. Slowly, those colder tones gave way to autumn.

And then there was the light inside the lighthouse — a tiny detail, but the moment I added it, the whole painting felt different.

Where the Lighthouse Waits is part of the Map of Quiet collection, inspired by the Québec coast and the small details that stay with me long after a place is left behind.
