Woodland Beginnings

Spring 2024

"Woodland Beginnings" is more than just a collection; it's a return to the serene forests of my childhood. As a young girl, I would lose myself in the woods, coming home with the marks of adventure—much to my mother's dismay. She often chided, "How can you always be covered in bruises, you're a girl!" But the forest held a magic that was irresistible, from the rustle of the leaves to the thrill of discovering a hidden bird singing in the foliage.

Though my tree-climbing days are behind me, my love for the forest persists. This collection captures the tranquility and wonder of those days, each piece a portal back to the peaceful, enchanted woods of my youth. I hope it invites you into this world, offering a glimpse into the slow, steady growth that mirrors the natural pace of the forest itself. Like the forest’s fungi, dependent on their surroundings yet resilient, this work has evolved slowly, embodying the patience and persistence of nature itself.

The Process

Where Inspiration Meets Canvas: The Birth of "Woodland Beginnings".

Each journey begins with a spark. For "Woodland Beginnings," that spark ignited in my studio, where visions of verdant forests and childhood memories began to take shape on canvas.

From studio to the great outdoors, the essence of Kananaskis' forests infused each stroke.

Most of this collection came to life outside, surrounded by the very landscapes that inspired their creation. Each piece captures a blend of memories from my childhood forests in Ukraine with the raw, wild beauty of Canadian woodlands.

Guided by raw emotions, every painting melds past experiences with present encounters.

In each artwork, you can see the interplay of old and new—memories weaving through fresh emotions, driven by the scenery around me. This collection is not just painted; it's lived.
